Live Interview Appearance Coming Up

I will be doing a live interview talking about my book Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles on a news station this Friday morning. This is out of my comfort zone – I would rather be behind the camera than in front of it. I am feeling really nervous about the interview; however, I am thankful I have been given this opportunity. Sometimes, it is good to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Hopefully, I won’t embarrass myself. I plan to tell you all about my experience of being on live TV afterwards. Have you ever done something out of your comfort zone that you are glad you did?

Jobs of a Preschooler Preschool Storytime

Today, I had the opportunity to lead a preschool storytime at a Barnes & Noble. I had a lot of fun reading Jobs of a Preschooler and doing various projects that go along with the book. We did all of the same activities as when I had done the preschool storytime at a library for Jobs of a Preschooler, which you can read about here if interested. The kids were able to go home with their decorated “microphones”, bracelets, coloring pages (if you would like to print your own copies, click here), and bookmarks. Most of the kids also went home with a signed copy of Jobs of a Preschooler or Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles. Part of the proceeds from the books purchased today will be donated to Iowa BIG. For more information about Iowa Big, you can visit their website here. I am looking forward to more book events throughout the month of November. Have a wonderful day!

Ramblings

Yummy Mt. Olive Pickles

For the past few years, my family has enjoyed growing cucumbers in our garden and making homemade bread and butter pickles (my favorite) using my grandma’s recipe. Unfortunately, we were unable to grow cucumbers this year, so we didn’t make any homemade pickles. We were disappointed when we ran out of all of our homemade pickles, and we had to go to the store to buy some.

Today, as we were looking for pickles at the store, my daughters were really excited to find Mt. Olive pickles on the shelves. (The Mt. Olive pickle company has been selling Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles in their gift shop in North Carolina, which I wrote about here and here.)

Needless to say, we had to buy a jar of the Mt. Olive bread and butter pickles to sample. Even though we didn’t wait for them to chill in the refrigerator before eating them, they were delicious!  They may not be our homemade bread and butter pickles, but I would recommend these yummy pickles.

This is the jar we bought to sample pickles:

Yummy Pickles!

Upcoming Events in November

November is going to be a fun month of book presentations that I am really looking forward to.  I love that I have been given the opportunity to share my books with kids while being able to donate money to various organizations. If you would like any more details to my upcoming events, please e-mail me at brigittebrulzis@gmail.com. Here is a quick description of the events I will be doing this month:

  • Saturday, November 4th: I will be reading Jobs of a Preschooler and doing some activities to go along with the book at a Barnes and Noble preschool story time. The event is free; however, copies of my books will be available for purchase. A percentage of the books sold at this event will be donated to Iowa BIG, which will be able to use the money to purchase books for children in foster care and other at-risk kids in the community.
  • Tuesday, November 14th:  I will be celebrating National Pickle Day with a Hy-Vee. Children who attend will be able to make some quick pickles, taste test some pickles, and listen to me read Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles. This is another free event; however, signed copies of my books will be available for purchase. $1.99 of each book sold at this event will be donated to a Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
  • Tuesday, November 21st: I will be reading Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles and doing activities to go along with the book with toddlers at a library. $2 of each book sold at this event will be donated to the library.
  • Tuesday, November 21st and Wednesday, November 22ndI will be reading Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles and doing activities to go along with the book with preschoolers at a library. $2 of each book sold on these dates will be donated to the library.

I plan to give an update on how each of these events went in future posts. Have a wonderful day!

New Activity for Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles

Using the illustrations from Pickles, Pickles, I Like Pickles, I created a worksheet for children to cut and paste steps in the order they occur during the pickle making process. Click on this link: How to Make Pickles to print a free worksheet. Click here: How to Make Pickles Answer Key if you need the answers to the worksheet. Here is a picture after one of my daughters completed the worksheet:
